sunburnt

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains,
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel sea,
Her beauty and her terror -
The wide brown land for me

- Verse 2 of My Country by Dorothea MacKellar

I realised today that I knew this off by heart. I'd like to say its because I paid attention in primary school and learnt it there, but the closer reality is that its probably because its on some TV ad that the governmet produced.
Anyway - I do love the poem, and thats saying a bit - coz i'm not really a poem kinda girl, but this one does string at my heart strings a little and I thought I'd share it with you.

[post thought] - heart strings is an odd phrase, there are actually those stringy things that are kinda attached to the valves in the ventricles of the heart, but I doubt that is what the phrase is named after... though - i'm sure it could be!

the heart is like a marionette. It has strings. If you pull one string one way, part of it moves. If you keep pulling, soon enough the whole thing moves coz all the strings are joined at the top. And if there's nothing pulling, the whole thing flops. :oS

No Emma any more? :o(
