Spring is definitely here - I know this for a variety of reasons - Father's day has just passed, I just had my birthday, you can't find long sleeve shirts in the shops anymore, I can't bask in the glory of my Sydney uni jersey without feeling like roast pork, the glorious weather the last few days, the snow is starting to get 'soft', people are getting hair-cuts, I can't buy boots anymore, and the days are creepingly getting longer. But more than any of those things - it is the Jasmine. Jasmine in my house is the sign of two things - my birthday, and spring.
When I was born, my grandmother brought in a bunch of Jasmine for my mum in the hospital, and it blooms every year just after my birthday. We have a wack of it in our backyard - and it just smells divine! This weekend mum cut a whole bunch off and placed it all around the house, in the bathroom, in the lounge room, anywhere there is a bowl or vase type thing... and its so nice! When I got home this afternoon - the smell was the first thing I noticed when I walked in the door and it was just so beautiful. Its such a nostalgic fragrance for me, and I smell it and just know that longer days, balmy nights and singlets are on the way. It was always a bit odd for me too - when I walked past the hedge of it outside Wallace theatre at uni, that it made me feel so at home just sitting outside the lecture theatre! Such is the beauty and comfort of jasmine for me!
