What happened to the stars?
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labour for nothing.
Philippians 2:12-16
I wonder if the fact that there is so much light pollution now, in this wonderful, yet highly commercialised city of ours, that the challenge to us to be shine like stars in the universe, is somewhat diminished. As the city lights compete, and make some of the most powerful and brightest of stars look like irrelevant specks, that our understanding of what it means for us to stand out and shine like stars in the universe doesn't fade, that we may realise that when you take away the light pollution, and maybe get away from the hustle and bustle of everything, the stars are seen. Maybe I need to do that in my Christian life. Strip away the unnecessary, and things that pollute my vision, or may pollute others vision of me, and thus any glory I may be able to bring to God - as a pure and blameless child of God.
May I NEVER let go of the word of life.
